Raining in The Metro

The Philippines is a tropical country and has only two yearly seasons: the rainy and the dry season. Usually the months of the rainy season start around June when the classes start, however throughout the year typhoons and tropical storms enter the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) and bring about rain.

Rain is also a blessing to farmers as the country is one of the rice producing nations in the region. However, recent typhoons, storms and even monsoon rains have brought too much rainfall that they cause disaster rather than a blessing. Crops and livestock have been destroyed in the country side while in the Metro, houses, cars and roads have been submerged in flood water.

Today is no different. It has been raining hard again since last night and just this morning as we were driving out. Poor Manila and the nearby cities. Because of the poor drainage system and Manila below sea level, I bet there will be flooding everywhere.

I checked out my favorite weather site Typhoon2000 to see if there is a typhoon brewing in the PAR and it seems like there is a tropical storm on the South China Sea, west of the Philippines. The clouds have already covered the entire country which means that more rain is to be expected throughout the day.

Soon there will school, university class and work suspensions again. I just hope that when the local governments who have been empowered to declare suspensions are not that late in doing so or else thousands will be stranded again on the streets because of the lack of public transportation. For the general public who will be out under this weather, be sure to have your raincoats and umbrellas with you.

I wish that somehow, the rain will stop, well just for today.
